Estonian Champions in Offshore Sailing at the 54th Moonsund Regatta | 19 Jul 11, piret.salmistu

The third stage of the Estonian Offshore Cup – the 54th Moonsund Regatta ended on the 17th of July in Tallinn. The Regatta with the highest number of participants since Estonia regained independence, saw nearly 700 yachtsmen on 109 yachts from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia pass the route Pärnu-Roomassaare-Virtsu-Heltermaa-Tallinn.  This year the Regatta ended in the European Capital of Culture Tallinn, giving additional sparkle to the finale of the Tallinn Maritime Days. The last or the seventh stage of the Regatta, the Tallinn round was raced on Sunday.


The most popular offshore regatta took the yachts to Roomassaare port after passing 68-91 miles from Pärnu Yacht Club to Saaremaa, where the yachts arrived during the night. The second, 10-23-mile stage of the Regatta was raced near Roomassaare in the afternoon of Tuesday. In the morning of Wednesday the Regatta took to the 33-70-mile stage from Roomassaare to Virtsu port. The fourth, the 22-40-mile stage was raced on Thursday from Virtsu to Hiiumaa (Heltermaa port). The fifth stage – the 12-30-mile tracks were raced near Heltermaa on Friday. The longest, 70-95-mile stage of the Regatta from Heltermaa to Tallinn Peetri port took place on Saturday and the last, 9-19-mile stage was held in Tallinn on Sunday. The yachts, from the smallest to the largest raced 224 to 368 nautical miles.

The award ceremony of the 54th Moonsund Regatta and awarding on the champions of Estonian offshore sailing took place on Sunday, 17 July at Old City Marina in Tallinn.


The best of the Estonian Championships in Offshore Sailing 2011 by groups:
The Estonian champion on ORC1 group
with 13 points and a set of 1-1-2-3-1-4-1 became a yacht of Kalev Yacht Club Premium-Tallinn 2011 Sailing Team with the team of Priit Tammemägi. The silver medals of the Estonian Championships were also won by the team of the yacht of Kalev Yacht Club LHV-Zuxu, whose score was 24 and the set of races 3-5-1-1-5-6-3, the team was steered by Peter Šaraškin. The bronze medals were awarded to yacht Forte and the team of Jaak Jõgi from Kalev Yacht Club. Their score was 26 and the set 2-2-5-7-7-1-2. There were 12 yachts competing in the group.


In ORC2 group, the sweeping victory was taken with
24 points and the set of 4-3-1-1-6-8-1 by Kalev Yacht Club yacht Deja vu with the team of Rene Treifeldt. The second place was won by 37 points and the set of 8-5-6-4-3-9-2 by Pärnu Yacht Club yacht Merepärl with the team of Alari Akermann. The third place, 40 points and the set of 1-1-7-23DNF-1-1-6 was also awarded to a yacht of the Pärnu Yacht Club - Mia with the team of Erki Melts. There were in total 22 yachts competing in this group


The title of Estonian champion in ORC3 group
was awarded with 14 points and the set of 2-3-1-3-3-1-1 to the Pärnu Yacht Club yacht Georg with the team of Viktor Feofanov. The second place was won with 22 points and the set of 4-2-4-5-2-2-3 by Kalev Yacht Club’s yacht Tessa with the team of Alar Ivanson. The third place of the Estonian Championships belongs to the Pärnu Yacht Club’s yacht WindWalker with the team of Raiko Lehtsalu, with 25 points and the set of 1-1-7-2-1-6-7. There were in total 13 yachts competing in this group.


The Estonian Champion in ORC4 group
was again without a doubt yacht Edasi of the Haapsalu Yacht Club by the steerting of Koit Pauts, they won 18 points and showed a set of races 1-2-8-1-3-2-1. The second place and silver medal of the Estonian Championships was won with 28 points and a set of 2-6-2-5-6-4-3 by Kalev Yacht Club’s yacht Leila with the team of Priit Põldmaa. The bronze medal of the Estonian Championships was awarded with 38 points and the set of 4-7-1-13-8-3-2 to a St. Petersburg yacht Prizrak with the team of Dmitrii Mostovoy. There were in total 21 yachts competing in this group.


The best of 2011 LYS Estonian Cup by groups:

The winner of the Estonian Cup in LYS1 class was with 30.5 points and the set of 9-2-8-2-4-4-1.5 a yacht of Kalev Yacht Club Sylvia with the team of Aare Kööp. The second place was awarded with 35 points and the set of 8-3-12-1-2-6-3 also to a yacht of Kalev Yacht Club – Merion with the team of Ain Pomerants. The third place was won with 42 points and the set of 2-1-5-21DNF-1-3-9 by a St. Petersburg’s yacht Mir with the team of Alexander Kulikov. There were in total 20 yachts competing in this group.


The winner of the Estonian Cup in LYS2 class
was with 20 points and the set of 6-3-1-3-2-4-1 Orjaku yacht Marie and the team of Mart Rätsepp. The second place was won with 25 points and the set of races of 2-2-10-1-1-7-2 by yacht Maris of the Saaremaa Nautical Sports Society with the team of Rene Riim. The third place was awarded to yacht La Folie from Pärnu Yacht Club and the team of Janno Simm with also 25 points but their set of races was 4-1-5-4-3-1-7. There were in total 15 yachts competing in this group.


The winner of the Estonian Cup in LYS 3 class or Nordic folkboats
was with 8 points and the set of 1-1-1-1-2-1-1 yacht Tuuli with the team of Olev Oolup. The second place was won with 18 points and the set of 2-2-2-7DNF-1-2-2 by Kalev Yacht Club’s yacht Greta with the team of Mikk Köösel. The third place was awarded also to a yacht of Kalev Yacht Club - Svea and the team of Hard Perk with 23 points and the set of 3-4-3-2-3-5-3. There were in total 6 yachts competing in this group


The Tallinn round of the X-41 class Estonian Offshore Sailing Cup held within the Moonsund Regatta was won by Forte from Kalev Yacht Club, steered by Jaak Jõgi, Premium-Tallinn 2011 Sailing Team from Kalev Yach Club, steered by Priit Tammemägi came in second and the third place was won by
Xini Freedom of the Finnish club NJK, steered by Martin Estländer.
The X-41 class Estonian Offshore Sailing Cup was won with 11 points and the set of 2-1-1-1-1-3-2 by Kalev Yacht Club’s yacht Premium-Tallinn 2011 Sailing Team with the team of Priit Tammemägi. The second place was won with 14 points and the set of 1-2-2-3-4-1-1 by Kalev Yacht Club’s yacht Forte with the team of Jaak Jõgi. The third place was won with 22 points and the set of 3-4-3-4-3-2-3 Xini Freedom of the Finnish club NJK, steered by Martin Estländer.

The competition of the Muhu Väina Regatta for the ORC class took place in four groups according to the GPH (general purpose handicap). Group I consisted of yachts, the GPH of which is less than 615.0, the competitors of Group II had a GPH in the range of  615.1 – 655.0, the GPH for Group III was 655,1-710.0 and the GPH of the fourth group was higher than 710.1. In addition to that, there were 3 LYS class groups.

 

The points calculation for the ORC groups was carried out by the method of Performance Line Offshore/Inshore (the adjusted time is obtained by subtracting from the product of the time of the trip and offshore time coefficient of the yacht the product of the length of the distance and offshore coefficient of the distance).


The Moonsund Regatta is organised by ESS Kalev Yacht Club and Pärnu Yacht Club in co-operation with the Estonian Yachting Union. The course of the Regatta could be observed in real time through a GPS system, which allowed observing the movement of the yachts also from a distance and gave the Regatta another dimension.

The EYU Offshore Sailing Cup consists in total of six regattas. The Kessu regatta raced near Haapsalu on 3 July was followed by the Watergate regatta that started and ended in Pärnu on 7-9 July. Thereafter the racing takes to the traditional Moonsund Regatta on 11-17 July, which is also the Estonian Championships for Offshore Sailing. At the end of the month, on 30-31 July, the Tallinn Championships will be held and less than a week later, on 4-7 August, Baltic Offshore Week will be raced in Tallinn. The last stage of the series is the Ruhnu Regatta held on 13 August, where the race takes the participants around the island of Ruhnu. The participating yachts are divided into four groups on the basis of the competition value - ORC I, ORC II, ORC III, ORC IV. In all groups the results of four best stages are taken into account in the summary of the series.
